The Community Hospital, Bishop's Castle was closed at the end of July for essential repair work to the floors. It is estimated that the closure will be 12 weeks. During this period most of the hospital staff are working as a “Home First Nursing Team,” visiting patients at home . This pilot project is aimed at reducing hospital admissions to the acute sector and allowing for swifter discharge for those patients who have been admitted.  Bishop’s Castle Patient Group  is assisting with a patient satisfaction survey. The Community Hospital has now re-opened.

Friends' AGM 2017, 19 October: The speaker was Jane Randall-Smith, Chief Officer at Healthwatch.

Friends have agreed to provide a chair for Audiology patients at the Community Hospital. We have also donated £300 to pay for DVD rental for the "Accessible Screening" programme at the SpArC which shows films with tea in the afternoon without staged seating for less mobile people and their carers.

That's what FRIENDS are for …......

Chair's report 2017

FRIENDS are always ready to consider suggestions towards ways of improving  support to the Home, Hospital and Community  and would welcome public support as members, volunteers or committee members.

The refurbished day centre Most recent funding has been towards refurbishment of the day room at Stone House (right), the SpArC  £50K appeal and the Accessible Screening Programme which will show selected films etc on some afternoons. Books have been bought to provide a library service  in Home and Hospital. The help of Bishop's Castle library has been much appreciated in their collecting a selection of discarded books, particularly those in large print.
